TUNG CHUEH

Care & keeping

Preserve the individual beauty of every material.

Wipe gently after wearing and store every piece separately. Remove before washing, bathing, sport or housework; keep perfume, alcohol, skincare and cleaning products away from your jewellery.

For mixed-material pieces, follow the gentlest care required by any component. The guidance below is for complete TUNG CHUEH pieces; avoid home soaking, ultrasonic or steam cleaning.

Precious metals & finishes

Gold alloys

CareWipe 9K and 14K gold gently with a dry jewellery cloth. Keep away from perfume, alcohol, perspiration, seawater and cleaners; avoid abrasive polish.

KeepingKeep each piece in its own padded compartment. Plated gold pieces also require the plating care below.

Silver

CareRemove fingerprints with a dry soft cloth. Before treating tarnish, check the finish and inset materials; do not use silver dips or abrasive silver polish on mixed-material pieces.

KeepingStore separately away from damp. An anti-tarnish pouch suits plain silver; do not over-dry pieces containing pearls or shell.

Gold & white-metal plating

CareIncludes 18K gold plating, rhodium plating and finishes described as platinum plating in the catalogue. Use a dry soft cloth only; avoid alcohol, brushes, polishing cloths and repeated rubbing.

KeepingDry before storing separately. Ask TUNG CHUEH about worn finishes; do not recolour or sand the surface.

Gemstones & jade

Diamond

CareIncludes pear-shaped and pavé diamonds. Wipe with a dry soft cloth and check the settings. Do not use ultrasound, steam or hard brushes on the complete piece at home.

KeepingPad separately so diamonds cannot scratch other gems. Stop wearing if a stone moves, rattles or catches on fabric.

Zircon

CareIncludes pink, black and square-cut black and white stones described as zircon in the catalogue. Wipe gently; avoid hard brushes, ultrasound, steam and strong cleaners.

KeepingKeep each piece separate, with its facet edges protected from contact and pressure.

Nanosital

CareFor blue, green and two-tone blue varieties, follow the TUNG CHUEH guide: wipe with a dry soft cloth, without ultrasound, hard brushes or intensive cleaning.

KeepingProtect from impact and abrupt temperature changes. Keep two-tone pieces individually padded, too.

Agate

CareIncludes red, green and black agate. Wipe with a dry soft cloth; avoid alcohol, solvents, strong acids or alkalis and prolonged soaking. Do not scrub the joins.

KeepingStore separately away from strong light and heat, protecting edges and setting seams.

Lapis lazuli

CareWipe with a dry soft cloth. Do not soak or expose to perfume, alcohol or acidic cleaners. Avoid steam and ultrasound to protect the stone and any surface treatment.

KeepingStore in a separate soft pouch or padded box, away from direct light, heat and harder jewellery.

Emerald

CareWipe gently with a dry soft cloth. Avoid soaking, alcohol, solvents, steam and ultrasound. Protect edges from blows and sudden temperature changes.

KeepingPad individually without pressure. Ask TUNG CHUEH to check treatment status before professional cleaning.

Laboratory-grown emerald

CareUse the same gentle care as for emerald jewellery: a dry soft cloth, no impact, heat, steam or ultrasound. A laboratory-grown origin does not remove setting or treatment considerations.

KeepingKeep separately padded and do not stack anything on the stone.

Tourmaline

CareIncludes pink tourmaline. Wipe dry; avoid high heat, sudden temperature changes, steam and ultrasound. Do not push sideways against a set stone.

KeepingStore separately in a cool place, protecting facet edges and prongs.

Sapphire

CareWipe with a dry soft cloth. A scratch-resistant gem still needs gentle handling at its setting. Avoid home ultrasound or steam when treatments are unknown.

KeepingKeep apart from pearls, shell and softer stones to prevent scratching.

Amethyst

CareWipe gently and avoid heat, steam and sudden temperature changes. Prolonged strong light can affect colour; avoid extended display in a sunny window.

KeepingStore individually away from light. Protect the setting edges and do not soak joined or mixed-material pieces.

Nephrite jade

CareIncludes white, green and black nephrite. Use a dry soft cloth or very soft dry brush around carving. Do not soak, oil, wax or pick out details with sharp tools.

KeepingUse a padded box to protect raised carving and thin edges from hard impacts and heat.

Blue topaz

CareClean with a dry soft cloth and avoid blows, pressure and thermal shock. Do not use steam or ultrasound. Follow plating care for the metal finish.

KeepingPad separately, with no pressure from a lid or other jewellery on the stone.

Amazonite

CareWipe with a dry soft cloth. Do not soak or expose to acidic cleaners, perfume or alcohol. Avoid hard brushes, heat and ultrasound.

KeepingKeep dry and separate from harder gems, away from strong light and heat.

Moonstone

CareWipe with a dry soft cloth. Avoid blows, abrupt temperature changes, steam, ultrasound and strong stain removers.

KeepingWrap or pad separately so it cannot touch other rings or gemstones.

Obsidian

CareRemove fingerprints with a dry soft cloth. Avoid knocks, drops, abrasives and hard brushes; do not scrape deposits with sharp objects.

KeepingPad separately, protecting the edges from pressure and abrupt temperature changes.

Malachite

CareUse a dry soft cloth only. Do not soak; keep away from perfume, alcohol, acidic and household cleaners, ultrasound and abrasives.

KeepingUse its own soft pouch or padded compartment to prevent scratching by harder materials.

Pearls & shell

Pearls & seed pearls

CareWipe after wearing with a dry soft cloth. Avoid water, alcohol, perfume, creams and heat; do not soak, use ultrasound or silver polish. A soft dry brush can reach around seed pearls.

KeepingPad separately, away from strong light and excessive dryness or desiccants. Do not pull on beads or their attachments.

White mother-of-pearl

CareWipe with a dry soft cloth. Avoid water, alcohol, perfume, acidic cleaners and abrasion, steam or ultrasound. Do not scrub faceted, carved or joined areas.

KeepingKeep individually padded, away from strong light, heat and excessive dryness. Protect thin edges and joins from pressure and metal contact.

Craft & inlay

Lacquer

CareUse a dry soft cloth or very soft dry brush. Avoid water, alcohol, perfume, solvents and scratches; do not sand, wax or repair at home.

KeepingStore separately away from light, heaters and damp, in stable temperature and humidity. Keep pressure off the lacquer.

Mother-of-pearl inlay

CareWipe lightly with a dry soft cloth. Do not soak or let alcohol, solvents or cleaners enter the joins. Never pick at the shell fragments.

KeepingUse the gentlest care required by both lacquer and shell. Pad separately and avoid friction, impact and prolonged strong light.

Enamel

CareWipe with a dry soft cloth or use a very soft dry brush in recesses. Avoid water, alcohol, perfume, solvents, hard brushes, ultrasound and steam; protect edges from impact.

KeepingStore separately with the enamel and metal borders protected. Do not bend the piece or stack jewellery on its surface.

Imitation diancui

CareGently lift surface dust with a soft, dry brush. Avoid repeated rubbing, scrubbing or scratching with a fingernail. Keep away from water, alcohol, perfume, cleaners and solvents; do not soak or use ultrasonic or steam cleaning.

KeepingStore each piece in a padded box away from strong light and heat, keeping the surface dry. Protect the decorative finish from pressure, friction and snagging. Contact TUNG CHUEH if it lifts, loosens or becomes damaged; do not glue it yourself.

If a setting loosens, a crack appears or the surface wears, stop wearing and contact TUNG CHUEH for advice.
